1. Why focus on HISTORICALLY underrepresented creators?

We believe representation matters. Today, the vast majority of music we hear in films and concert halls was written by men. Much of the poetry taught in school was written by white people who were dead before the readers were born. Many music students will only play a few songs by creators of color or none at all. What extraordinary works are we not hearing? What exceptional creators are we not seeing?

We believe the diversity of our works catalogs should represent the global majority of our world, and anything less is letting talented voices fall silent - a disservice to us all. We invite you to support the exceptional creators you find here by purchasing their extraordinary works. For more on current inequity in concert halls, please see these articles: Equity & Diversity in Concert Halls, The Institute for Composer Diversity.

2. HOW ARE WORKS DELIVERED?

Our store is 100% digital, which means no physical products are shipped. All works are conveniently delivered via download link, sent to the email address you provide, within minutes of checkout. Sheet music and books are PDFs. Please see the work descriptions for other types of file delivery.

Dynamic Pricing

3. WHAT IS “DYNAMIC PRICING”?

Dynamic Pricing allows you to choose to pay more than the price listed on our website during checkout. To increase the price you pay for a work, simply click on the price box in your cart and enter any price above the list price (see red circle, left).

Do you simply want to pay the list price? Totally fine! You can always checkout by paying the price you see on our site.

4. WHY WOULD ANYONE CHOOSE TO PAY MORE?

We appreciate all sales at SozoMart. We consider each sale an act of support for our creators, and we’re glad you share our enthusiasm for these talented authors. If you want to give more support to these folks, please consider raising the price you pay at checkout using Dynamic Pricing. 👆 Dynamic Pricing allows us to keep works accessible, while letting those who want to show more monetary support to name their own price.

5. CAN I PRINT SOZOMART SHEET MUSIC? WHAT ABOUT PRINTING A BOOK?

Yes! If you buy sheet music or a book or any other PDF from our site, you may print as many copies as you or your ensemble need for your personal use. We ask that you not distribute works to others, including other musicians or ensembles - that is a violation of our terms of sale. If someone you know would like a copy, please refer them to our website.

Please refer to your rental terms for details on printing sheet music rentals.

6. CAN I PERFORM A SOZOMART PIECE IN A CONCERT?

Yes! We want these pieces to be HEARD. If you play a piece publicly, we’d love to hear about it. Please contact us with the concert information or a link to the online program.

7. ONCE I MAKE A PURCHASE, CAN I DOWNLOAD THE FILES FOREVER?

Downloads are limited to 3 times and 1 month from the date of sale.

8. MY FRIEND / STUDENT / CAT SITTER PLAYS VIOLIN, TOO! CAN I EMAIL THEM THE SHEET MUSIC I PURCHASED FROM SOZOMART?

Please do not do that. This is an unauthorized use of works purchased at SozoMart. Instead, please refer your friend / student / cat sitter to SozoMart.com to buy their own sheet music, or buy a digital copy for them!

Do you you need over 5 copies of a work? Please contact us for pricing discounts.

9. CAN I POST A SOZOMART WORK ON ANOTHER WEBSITE, SO OTHERS CAN DOWNLOAD IT?

No. Don’t do this. This hurts us and our creators.

If you have a rental agreement, please refer to the terms of your agreement for how to distribute electronic files correctly.

10. I’M A COMPOSER / POET / CREATOR… CAN I DISTRIBUTE MY WORKS WITH SOZOMART?

We love to meet new creators! Please know that we are currently focused on professional BIPOC (including API and Latinx), womxn and other historically under represented creators. We’re interested in creators who already have a collection of professionally prepared, but currently unpublished, digital works and a documented history in the performing arts (multiple years of commissions by orchestras or performing arts centers, previously or actively selling works, press mentions, etc.). For sheet music, this means all scores must be professionally music copied (by the composer or a separate music copyist). Please see our Score Prep Guidelines for more information.

Think you fit this description? Please contact us and include a link to your website and the name(s) of the work(s) you're seeking to distribute. Disclaimer: SozoMart is run by a small team, so we may not answer all your emails right away… or ever if there’s too many of them (being honest).
