COMPOSER’S NOTE:
Home, Migrations, and Our Imaginary Daughter is the first work where I am combining conventional ways of orchestral playing (Home) with moments of improvisation, musical equity, and discovery beyond the confines of the conductor (Migration). As the music unfolds farther from the initial measure, each subsequent measure offers opportunities for the individual musician to make decisions about tempo, repetitions, volume, range, and how they choose to interact with one another and the audience. These migrations allude to the very real journey that many humans face everyday as they seek place and promise in countries that are free - a place where they are safe, loved, and can make their own decisions within a community of care.
